Frequently Asked Questions

What is SkipsDNS?

SkipsDNS lets you preview a website on a specific server before changing your DNS records. Just enter your domain and the target server's IP address, and we'll generate a shareable preview link that routes through our proxy.

How does it work?

When you visit a preview link, our server connects to the target IP address and sends your domain as the Host header. The remote server responds as if the real domain was used. We rewrite URLs in the response so all links work through the proxy.

Is it free?

Yes! SkipsDNS is completely free. Preview links are active for 24 hours and support up to 100 page views. This is more than enough for quick testing and sharing with clients.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can generate preview links instantly without signing up. Just enter your domain and IP address.

Is my data safe?

We don't store any content from the websites being proxied. The only data we keep is access logs and the link configuration (domain, IP, port). Preview links automatically expire and are cleaned up.

Why doesn't my site look right?

Some websites with heavy JavaScript, single-page app frameworks, or strict Content Security Policy headers may not render perfectly through the proxy. For basic website previews, HTML/CSS sites, WordPress, and most CMS platforms work great.

Can I use this for website migrations?

Absolutely! This is the primary use case. After migrating your site to a new server, use SkipsDNS to verify everything looks correct before updating your nameservers or DNS A records.

What ports are supported?

You can specify any port from 1 to 65535. The default is port 80 for HTTP and port 443 for HTTPS connections to the target server.

How long do preview links last?

Free preview links are active for 24 hours with a maximum of 100 page views. After that, they automatically expire.
